Synesthesia
Cross-wiring of the Senses
This is the rarest form of Synesthesia where individual words and syllables evoke taste sensations in the mouth.

Synesthetic associations are constrained by early food experiences. In other words, the individual cannot taste something if they have not eaten it before as a child, so the taste of cake would be more common among lexical - gustatory synesthetes than gin and olives.

*There is an account of an individual that could only taste proper names *
It's hypothesized that this form of synesthesia is due in part to

- Increased connectivity between regions of the Insula
- Cross wiring in the Lateral Sulcus: involved in taste processing
- Temporal lobe: regions involved in auditory processing
